Honda has very lofty goals when it comes to being the leader in fuel economy, and reducing carbon emissions. That's evidenced in the release of its new Earth Dreams technologies, where the Japanese automaker hopes to cut down on emissions by 30 percent the time 2020 rolls around.

Thanks to the prevalence of hybrids, most consumers would dub gas-electrics the greenest cars on the market. While Honda of Bowie certainly supports hybrid technology, we'd like to point out that a different type of alternative-fuel vehicle deserves that title. For 2012, both Green Car Journal and the American Council for Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) have named the Honda Civic Natural Gas as the greenest automotive machine of them all.
